This dissertation takes six French students staying in Hangzhou as subjects of investigation. Based on acoustic experiment and perception tests, the article analyzes error types of French students'ton of Chinese monosyllable and trys to summary teaching principles and strategies. In addition to the conclusion, the thesis is divided into five parts.The first part is the Introduction. It introduces the origin of topic selection, summaries the main problems which occurs to current research and explains the significance of this reasearch.The second part is the Acoustic Experiment. In the overview of the choice of subjects, the character table design, experimental method and procedure, Phonetic software (Praat), z-score (LZ) and mean value (cross different types of ton) methods are applied to analyze fundamental frequency and duration from selective data. The conclusion is that "confusion between the second tone and third ton and the lack of fourth ton duration" is still the main problem to French students even with medium and advanced Chinese language level.The third part is Perception Experiment. This part investigates French students'listening comprehension and pronunciation ability on the method of perception experiment. The result shows that the pronunciation ability to some extent is interfered with the listening comprehension, but not absolutely.The fourth part is Special Experiment (Investigating Initial Consonant's Influence to Monosyllabic Ton's acqusition). During the teaching of Chinese initial consonant, writer noticed that alveolar and postalveolar initial consonants are difficult to French students. This part trys to find out whether the acquisition of initial consonant interferes with the acquisition of tons. The conclusion is that the tons become more difficult to French students when j, q, x, zh, ch, sh being the initial consonant.The last part is Teaching Principles and Strategies. On the basis of experiments above mentioned, the teaching principle and strategies should be applied are listed as followings. The principle is that ton teaching must be run through all the teaching course. It can be carried out through four Strategies:emphasizing the features of ton, compling exercise according to learners' language level,using software Praat, and giving vived example of ton mistakes.
