This paper takes the existential sentence "NP1+V+有+NP2" of modern Chinese as the research object. This kind of existential sentence can be divided into three segments:the start segment of "NP1", the middle segment of "V+有"and the final segment of "NP2". The three segments are described from syntactic and semantic perspectives. Moreover, induction of construction meaning and analysis of pragmatic value are made on the basis of these descriptions.Chapter 1 mainly introduces definition and scope, research theories and methods, research significance and data source of the existential sentence "NP1+V+有+NP2".Chapter 2 reviews previous research results with regard to the existential sentence "NP1+V+有+NP2", "V+有"structure and the sentence pattern of "NP1+V+有+NP2" and summarizes accomplishments and disadvantages of relevant studies.Chapter 3 analyses the syntactic and semantic features of the existential sentence "NP1+V+有+NP2". Syntactic and semantic descriptions are made respectively to the three segments of this sentence. Based on the descriptions-and analysis, this chapter draws conclusions:the start segment "NP1" is typically made up of nouns representing locations or positional phrases; the verb in this kind of sentence is basically an action verb; "V+有" structure is a special verb-resultative complement structure;"有"functions in completing the sentence; the final segment "NP2" is basically made up of indefinite nouns and nominal phrases. Based on syntactic and semantic features of the existential sentence "NP1+V+有+NP2", Chapter 4 induces its construction meaning, that is, "the existential subject remains in a certain status in a certain location as a result of some action". With a spatial feature, NP1 builds "existential location" for construction meaning. The construction meaning restricts the verb."有"guarantees that the construction meaning does not lay emphasis on continuity and and completion. The head being a noun is the basis on which NP2 becomes "existential subject".Chapter 5 makes pragmatic analysis of the existential sentence "NP1+V+有+NP2". This chapter first summarizes its pragmatic values, that is, avoiding stiffness, brief language with rich connotation, being expressive and offering more precise description. Then, by investigating articles in four basic styles of political comment, science business and literature, this chapter totals the appearance frequency of this existential sentence with an conclusion that this kind of sentence pattern is inclined to appear in articles of scientific style. The pragmatic values in combination with basic features of the four styles well explains the reason for this inclination.
