Tacit knowledge is a kind of knowledge which is never transfonned explicitly and benefits quite the success of people. A lot of excellent performances are based on the tacit knowledge of people in the practical tasks. Just from this point, a large body of research have been made by the psychologist abroad. However, there is little research, especially domain research in tacit knowledge in China so for. This paper deals with the tacit knowledge of university students for the first time. The main objec- tive is to confirm dimensions of the tacit knowledge for university students and investigate the status of the tacit knowledge of university students, thus providing theoretical basis for quality education in university. Based on the theoiy on tacit knowledge and individual interviews, the Questionnaire of University Students?Tacit Knowledge is formulated. The findings of the investigation of 588 students are elaborated as the following: The self-made questionnaire has good reliability and validity. From the factor analysis of the result of the investigation, we have obtained 8 factors: autonomy, social approval, planning, preparation, participation, determination, normalization, absorption. The rank of the mean score follows as: autonomy, social approval, preparation, planning, normalization, determination, absorption, participation. Speciality difference on participation is veiy significant. The score of science is much higher than that of liberal speciality. There are significant differences in different grades on the planning and determination dimen sions. The scores of the tacit knowledge are freshmen>senior >sophomore>junior in turn. Gender differences on the planning, determination and absorption dimensions are significant. Female students got widely higher scores than male students. All the dimensions except autonomy have been found the interaction between speciality and grade. The dimensions on social approval and absorption show the interaction between speci- ality and gender.
