After the main industrial and agricultural area of Southeast China was taken over by Japan, the rear rural areas become the base of Kuomintang government for clothing, feeding and for repaying the debt by goods. During the war, the economic~. military and political situation urgently demanded the development of agriculture of the rear-area. On this special occasion, the anti-Japanese war offered a good opportunity for the development of Agricultural science and technology. Due to the effective policies taken by the Kuomintang government, and the concerted efforts of the people the rear-area, the Agricultural Science and Technology had developed considerably. It greatly influenced the agricultural economy of the rear- area, and set up a good material foundation for the success of the war. But for some complicated reasons, the rear-area agriculture have still had a difficult time.
