This thesis makes use of sociological theries to analyze the important topic of the oldest selected songs The Book of Songs梖arming songs. This thesis contains four chapters. The first chapters briefly explains the concept and basic articles of faming songs as songs describing farming and songs of politics, religious activities and daily life related with farming. The articles, in the narrow sense, contains 11 songs, July Chuci, Xinnanshan, Futian, Datian, Siwen, Yixi, Chengong, Fengnian, Zaishan, Liangsi. The second chapter arranges the research history of farming songs and summarizes their characteristics of various periods. The third chapter is the main body of the thesis and gives the complete analysis of farming cultural feature of farming songs in four aspects of history, politics, philosophy and literature. By studying the farming songs and combining other works of the same history, the history aspect describes the overall situation of agriculture production and sacricial rites of West Zhou Dynasty. The political aspect analyzes the political view implied in farming songs from two angles as spirit of attaching importance to farming and political significance endowed by scholars. The philosophical aspect probes into the reasonable spirit that Thou people do all that is humanly possible torespect God抯 will and do their best to respect gods from three angles of God?will, the relation between human and nature and between human and gods. The literature aspect analyzes the literature character of farming songs from content and form. The fourth is the conclusion of this thesis and initially probes into the relationship among traditional songs, farming culture and national spirit on the basis of the third chapter.
