Through reviewing music history writers' explanation about romantic music in the 20th century, reflecting the view that romantic music is free only in form and order and the inheritance is greater than contrariness between romantic music and classic music, this paper finds defectiveness of past conclusion, comparing classic music, the paper holds , romantic music have had new cultural attribute, and the fragmentation between romantic music and classic music is no less than inheritance. In the other words, romantic music and classic music have a relation of formal connection and culturalfragmentation. From three dimensions rebelling rationalism------the transition ofmusical idea, segregating between person and society------the transition of musicalconnotation and representing selfhood and ego------the transition of relation betweenmusic and acceptance, the paper deeply analyzes the essence of romantic music, and further points out that the western romantic music does not lock itself in aged historical parole, whereas after fragmenting between romantic music and classic music, brings about influence to future music on interior of culture. Though reinterpreting romantic music, reveals difference between scientific research orientation and cultural one in research of western music history.
