On 1990s Urban Novel Multi-cultural Awareness

In the 1990s, following the establishment of the market-oriented economic system, cities started to stand in the core position of the economy development. Consequently, urban literature evolved and proliferated. Facing the complex and rapidly changing urban novels, in view of the rich culture, this thesis tries to explore and study the characteristics of the urban novels in the 1990s from the perspectives of the urban culture consciousness, the civil culture consciousness and the individual culture consciousness. Among them, the urban culture consciousness, which is characterized by roaming and drifting, is discussed by analyzing puzzles of individual eccentricity and sense of loss in finding spiritual paradise. The civil culture consciousness is discussed from the perspectives of theme, attitude of narration and value orientation. The individual culture consciousness characterized by egotism is examined from the angle of feminine life experience and male lust.By analyzing the urban novels of the 1990s, we can see that the urban novels are so vigorous as the rural novels. Not only can we perceive the changes in aesthetic objective and the development of aesthetic consciousness, we can also notice the direction of literature creation from cultural angle. This is initiative and practical.
