In this paper, the historical place and thought of Chang Tsai's Western Inscription, as well as the evolution and content of Fung Yu-Lan's the transcendent sphere are investigated respectively. Emphasizing metaphysics and outlook on life, the comparative study of Western Inscription and the transcendent sphere unfolds on the basis of the above.As we know, Fung and Chang both take the same path of expressing their philosophy, that is, from enlightenment to perfection. By comparing Western Inscription with the transcendent sphere, such as Chi and the totality, enlarging heart and the negative method, an integral whole and transcendent sphere, we conclude that, in essence, the thought of transcendent sphere stems from Western Inscription.
