The study on the successive using of verbs in modern Chinese often focuses on verb-object and verb-complement structures, rarely on verb-adverbial structure. Though it isn't a common grammatical phenomenon for a verb to act as an adverb, it is really worth studying and exploring thoroughly. According to the data obtained from more than 1,500,000-words novels, this thesis makes an attempt to carry out an overall and thorough exploration on " V1+V2" verb-adverbial structure.First of all, the thesis counts up the number of the verbs that can act as an adverbial modifier, and analyses the different semantic categories. Meanwhile the collocation laws of Vi and ? on pronunciation and grammar are further explored. Furthermore, in the range of the syntactic behaviors, analyzing the semantic direction of Vi and the syntactic distribution of " Vi+XV verb-adverbial structure. Finally, the thesis inspects the stability of verb-adverbial structure and other types of successive using of verbs.
