As one of the most productive members of Modern Chinese compound words, nouns consisting of a modifier and the morpheme it modifies have their own uniqueness. To study and find out the unique features between the word meaning and its componential morphemes' meanings is the primary goal of this thesis. In order to comprehend the relationships between the word meaning and its componential morphemes' meanings in a compound noun, we basethe research on three points------ideational meaning , color meaning andgrammatical meaning.First, we make a comprehensive description on the internal syntagmatic features of the nouns consisting of a modifier and the morpheme it modifies. By doing so, we can find the unique laws between them.Second, standing from the description of how the color meanings affect the word meaning, we generalize the relationships of the color meaning between the word and its morphemes. The goal of this issue is to discuss and prove the law of the constraints, which were imposed to the word meaning by the modifier morpheme's color meanings.Thirdly, we discuss the relationships of the grammatical meanings between the compound word and its morphemes, in order to find out the fact that the word meaning tends to inherit the form of its center morpheme. Finally, we summarize the main laws of the meanings between a compound noun and its componential morphemes.
