Zhuangzi, From The Perspective Of Environmental Philosophy

When the environment protection is shifting to the reality, the support of philosophy shift is indispensable. Environmental philosophy that backed by the integration of human beings and nature is reflecting the value and thinking model that result in the environmental crisis, and trying to find out the real meaning of life and the reasonable, reconstructive society. It broadens the visual field of philosophy and makes a breakthrough to the Paradigm of classical worldview initiated by the Descartes-Newton. So we can compare the environmental philosophy to the Zhuang-zi's ideas. This thesis, firstly, discriminate the concept of environmental philosophy from the others, retrospect the historical origin of environmental philosophy, which will be a try to probe the basic tenet. Then, by comparing Zhuang-zi's ideas with environmental philosophy from the view of holism cognition methodology, the status and value of human beings and nature in an integrating nature system, meditation on technology, we can draw the conclusion: from the point of view of intuition and comprehension, Zhuang-zi transformed the concept of Nature into the transcendental philosophy category. Besides, Zhuang-zi also proved the rationality of holism cognition methodology. Based on that, Zhuang-zi reassessed the value of nature and subjectivity of human beings, clarified the principle that the value of the nature is intrinsic and pluralistic, made the status of human beings in cosmos as the frame of reference to judge the value, overthrew the metaethics preposition of anthropocentrism, realized the integration of being and value. The representation and essence of technology and the possibility of technology salvation in a technology world was also unremittingly criticized and reflected in Zhuang-zi's works. So, we are sure that the original environmental philosophy initiated by Zhuang-zi will be turned up again, which will boost the deep development of today's environmental philosophy.
