Since the middle of the 20 th century, with the continuous progress of global industrialization, human pollution and damage to the natural environment have increased dramatically. This led to a worldwide discussion on environmental protection, reflection and the value of nature. In order to solve many problems caused by the environmental crisis, environmental scientists at home and abroad have conducted a series of systematic analysis and research on the relationship between human and nature.Among them,"whether nature has intrinsic value" has become the focus of anthropocentrism and non-anthropocentrism.Scholars who hold anthropocentric view of natural value put forward that it has only instrumental value, but no intrinsic value at all.Natural values are just the subjective projection of human feelings in nature.Natural values are based on human preferences and needs, and are just tools to meet human needs.Man uses nature for his own purposes, and in the process,he gives it value. However, this proposition overemphasizes the subjectivity of human beings, that is,as the center of the universe, human beings can dominate all natural beings. The non-anthropocentrism view is based on a critique of traditional anthropocentrism, which argues that intrinsic values are not unique to humans, that nature has intrinsic values as well.Natural beings should be treated with the same respect and moral care as human beings. This view, however, has led to an expanding sphere of moral concern, upsetting the original balance and giving too much meaning to the intrinsic values of nature. The purpose of both arguments is to protect the harmonious development of human and nature, both of which have obvious rationality and limitations. This paper tries to solve the contradiction between traditional anthropocentrism and non-anthropocentrism by invoking the ideas of modern anthropocentrism, which not only acknowledges the inherent value of nature, but also emphasizes the subject status of human beings, and demonstrates the rationality and legitimacy of modern anthropocentrism from the perspective of teleology.Starting from the environmental crisis, this paper is divided into five chapters: The first chapter mainly describes the purpose of the research, research trends at home and abroad and research ideas. The second chapter introduces the idea of intrinsic value and the debate about natural intrinsic value. The third chapter expounds the intrinsic value of nature from the perspective of traditional anthropocentrism. The fourth chapter introduces the intrinsic value of nature from the perspective of non-anthropocentrism,and the fifth chapter solves the problem of intrinsic value of nature by means of teleology.
