On Hu Shi's Thought Of Literature

In the period of the May 4th movement of 1919,HuShi devoted himself to "the literature revolution", later, HuShi initiated the thought of "reorganizing the national heritage". HuShi's research of the history of literature, not only maintained close ties with "the literature revolution ",but also became the component part of "reorganizing the national heritage". So, It is necessary to research HuShi's ideology of the history of literature. This article includes four parts:The first part is a survey of HuShi's new view of the history of literature. By careful researching, HuShi founded the viewpoint which regarded the populace as dominant content, the concept of historical and evolutional, the criterion to evaluate the research of the history of literature.Part two is the discussing method of HuShi's research of the history of literature. HuShi selected and used the basic method: "bold assume, cautious prove". At the same time, he adopted the way of comparison, and the means of combining macroscopical study and microcosmical study.Part three is on inquiring into HuShi's compiling of the history of literature.HuShi summed up forefathers'experience and drawed a moral from forefathers.He fully paid attention to the significance of selecting and explaining historical data.Besides,he arranged original style according to materials.The last part reflects on HuShi's ideology of the history of literature. The specificed epoch and many sided-tasks led to some regret, which existed in HuShi's research of the history of literature. Despite defects, HuShi's entire value couldn't be denied.
