As the European Integration is the combination of independent sovereign states, political leaders of the member states who have different political opinions on European Integration respectively have had far-reaching impact on the European Integration when they fought for or against the cause of European Integration. In this thesis, the author wants to show the similarities and differences between Gaulle, Charles de's and Konrad Adenauer's strategies and relevant political actions on European Integration. The thesis mainly contains three parts. The first part whose focus is on the similarities between the two men's strategies is divided into three sub-parts. The first sub-part deals with the topic on the common historical background of the two's strategies on European Integration: the historical development of the thoughts on European Integration and the fall of Europe after World War II. The subject of the second sub-part is the common base of the two men's integration strategies- the Coalition between France and German. The third sub-part discusses the two men's conception-the Third Power in the world. After the part of similarities, it is the main part of the thesis: the differences between the two's strategies and relevant political actions. In this part, there are four sub-titles:1.Different Policy toward Super Powers. As the United States' Ally, Gaulle de's France insisted on maintaining independence and keeping the initiative in her own hands in order to protect the benefit of France and give full play to the integrated Europe as the Third Power in the world. Konrad Adenauer depended on the United States' security guarantee while he stood firm against the Soviet Union. Adenauer intended to unite the two parts of German in the cause of European Integration.2. Differences in the sphere of European Integration. Gaulle de had two sortsof sphere of European Integration. One is the union of almost all nations of "free Europe" as the third power, whether the United Kingdom should be the member state will depend on the attitudes of Britain toward the European Integration. The other is the "From Atlantic To Ural" Pan-Europe Union. According to this plan , Gaulle de hoped to build a union of all European states including the Soviet Union while excluding the United States. Adenauer's sphere of European Integration is not so wide as Gaulle de's. He wants to integrate all European Nations of the West. As to the problem on the United Kingdom's entry, Adenauer at first invited, but later did not welcome Britain's entry because of Britain's opposing attitudes toward European Economic Community.3.Difference with regard to conceding and sharing state sovereignty. Gaulle de thought that the nation is the main even the sole actor in the international relations and opposed conceding and sharing state sovereignty. He took actions to prevent the European Economic Community from further developing. Adenauer supported the conceding and sharing of state sovereignty. He negotiated those treaties, which put European Integration in motion. Adenauer's relevant political actions helped the European Integration to develop further.4. Differences in the struggling for leadership of the European Integration. Gaulle de tried his best to obtain the leadership of European Integration for France. Thus he prevented the United States and the United Kingdom from having a finger in the leadership while he also managed to make the European Economic Community not a supra-national but a inter-states service institution. As the leader of German, Adenauer could not strove for leadership like Gaulle de, but German is a potent big power and its economy is the strongest in the Western Europe. Thus Adenauer acted as a most important leader in the European Integration. The last is the part of conclusion. Here the author makes a general comment on success and failure of the two's strategies and relevant political actions regarding the European Integration, then tries to talk on the hardship in theintegration and the liberal thoughts that contemp...
