Based on the introduction to the history and current development of emotional intelligence research, this thesis adopted a kind of representative theory of emotional intelligence and aimed at examining some related issues of emotional intelligence. Using the methods of correlational analysis and regression analysis , the thesis inquired into the relationship between emotional intelligence and cognitive intelligence, personality traits, academic performance .The results of this thesis suggested that (a) emotional intelligence didn't significantly correlate with cognitive intelligence;(b)emotional intelligence significantly correlated with extraversion and neuroticism; (c)emotional intelligence didn't significantly correlated with academic performance and the explanatory power of emotional intelligence was smaller than cognitive intelligence in the domain of academic achievement. According to these results, the thesis came to the following conclusions:(a)emotional intelligence adopted in the thesis didn't meet the standard for an intelligence; (b) there were specific conditions in which the popular viewpoint " Emotional intelligence is more important than cognitive intelligence (or IQ)" was appropriate.
