So far, reserchers have published few papers and books on the post communication status of Northeast China in Qing Dynasty. And scholactic attainment about the labours of the posts is fewer. People understand the question so hazily that a thorough study on this issue is required.Qing Government opened up the post road, set up the post station, and established a systematic post system in Northeast China. However,it is the industrial workers in the posts who finished the post task. Originally, most of them were prisoners that were captived in the Rebellion of Sanfan led by Wu Sangui. So they were of low social position and had no freedom. It is till the end of Qing Dynasty that the government adjusted the policy according to the domestic situation. Since then, these labours' social position was improved. However, their life were always hard. Under an oppressive social atmosphere, the labours had limited association with the outside world. As a result, they formed a relatively closed social group, having their own way of life and social psychology. In a sense,we can say the labours in the posts of the Northest of China in Qing Dynasty belong to a special social group.Although they were of low social position, the labours were engaged in various economic activities in the Northeast China. For example, the opening-up of large pieces of land near the posts, the influence of the accumulated population, and the rising of the towns and industry and commerce all pushed the development and construction of the Northeast of China. So the labours made great contribution to the history. This paper is divided into six parts: Part One systematically introduces the origin of the labours on posts in the Northeast China in Qing Dynasty and explores the reason for their low social position.Part Two introduces the labours' legal position, the administration of the posts and the legal provisions.Part Three mainly analyzes the working environment and state of the labours.Part Four explains the reasons for the change of the labours' social status after Qing Dynasty. This part explores how the government exploited the labours.Part Five introduces the economic status of the labours and their family members as well as their optimistic attutude in face of difficulties. The sixth part mainly presents the development of the land of posts in terms of the disposition, administration and changes of the post land so as to reveal the contribution the labours made to the development of Northeast China. In the conclusion part, the paper makes a comprehensive analysis of the contribution made by the labours in Noreast China in Qing Dynasty to development of the Northeast frontier of China.
