Fu Xuanwen Study

The XiJin dynasty was a age of "wenzhangzhongxing". As two peaks of literary creation , JianAn and TaiKang represented different aesthetic styles. Most scholar' attention is mainly drawn on great writers such as LuJi, PanYue etc. In fact, FuXuan as a transitioned writer who lived in the time between Wei and Jin dynasty was also an important one. We can find the developing track of Wei Jin literary style more directly through his works, but the study of it isn't enough. This paper means to have an overall study to his all works so as to give him a appraisal in the literature history.This thesis consists of the preface, the main body and the conclusion.In the preface, the author firstly points out the shortcomings of the study on FuXuan, then thinks that his works can keep the literary development of this period. At last, the author briefly summarizes the previous studies, writing intention and the way of study.The part one concludes some unsettled problems about FuXuan. One of them is his hometown. Today there are three views on it: GanSu, NingXia and ShanXi. The author maintains that HeNan is FuXuan's hometown. The second problem is the version of his FuZi. Ye Dehui's version is the best one. The last content is some new literary material discovered by the author.The part two is FuXuan's literary thinking. First, to advocate elegance and further purport of the literature whose forms suit to content; second, to emphasize literary style and like imitation. FuXuan believed every kind of essay should have its own style.The part three divided three section. One of the inheritance and innovation of YueFu poetry which can divided three kinds: the first is to with former titles and content which is the result of imitation from Han dynasty. The second kind composed of former titles and new content. This kind was the continuance of JianAn poetry with innovationand development. The last one, the creative YueFu poetry, could express emotion more freely, and aesthetic techniques were concerned at the same time. In short, FuXuan's YueFu poetry played an important role in the history of Chinese poetry. Section two, the poetry. FuXuan's poetry took on the continuance and complete of poetry development. He made expansion of the poetry subject, the deep of the content expressing, the refinement of the form. Section third, CiFu. FuXuan always used CiFu to conveyed the thinking of Confucianism, and showed the track of CiFu development.Conclusion: in the history of Chinese literature, FuXuan wasn't a significant writer , but in the special period of literary innovation, he was indeed an important writer who undoubtly served as a bridge in the period from JianAn to ZhengShi.
