Through the professional sensitivity and educational needs of a college dance teacher, this author brings into focus the historical facts of Margaret H'Doubler (1889 — 1982), who, greatly honored as the "Mother of American Higher Dance Education", creates the very history of dance education on the tertiary level at the University of Wisconsin , just for the purpose of exploring and exposing the very nature and significance of higher dance education and providing the fast growing higher dance education of our contemporary China with some useful references and examples.During the three-year process of her reading, thinking, researching and writing, the author adopts the general methodology of historical studies, analyses the objects of her specific studies such as the biographical materials, the theoretic book DANCE, A Creative Art Experience, etc. of Margaret H'Doubler, who happens to be quite active at the beginning of the 20th Century and gets deeply involved in the drastic changes of the brand new era, traces back the profound influences on her educational practice, such as the "Feminist Movement", John Dewey's "Pragmatistic Theory in Education", etc., thus finding plenty of inevitability of the higher dance education's rise up.
