Secular Style

Shanghai is always a heated and attractive image, in which shanghai urban women are hardly described fully, in logic circulation of a hundred years' narration. This paper reads and analyzes Shanghai women based on films reflecting the background of city and women images in culture and produced from late of Qing Dynasty to first half of 20th Century ,from the angle of secularization imagining of culture & gender, by the method of theory imagined of narration subject. It tries to find out the imagination and memory of women in the city among different creation modes of female image by films—the "female" imaginary pictures behind. By analyzing these imaginary pictures it studies deductive relationship between women image and Shanghai/city modernity in Shanghai films and addresses multi-meaning of women including Shanghai culture construction and gender identity.
