As we know, distributive justice is the key content of political ethics. Nowadays, the thing that people focus on the research of the important question—distributive justice becomes more and more popular and they keep on studying it further with the emergence and development of applied ethics. We chose Mencius' s "etiquette" which represents the distributive justice in ancient China and Rawls' s "contract" that represents distributive justice in contemporary society in order to make a research of comparison between them.Because they differ from social historical conditions, connotation of distribution, demonstrative theories, focal points and essential ways of realization. The obvious characteristic is— "etiquette" is a kind of traditional hierarchical distributive justice which values community more important than individual and it advocates virtue ethics and "contract" is a kind of contemporary equal distributive justice that calls out loudly for individual' s right and it advocates institution ethics. We made a research of comparison between Mencius and Rawls' s theories on distributive justice in details through the main clue of "hierarchy"and "equality"., The main idea as follows: the 1st is: the principles of distributive justice— "etiquette" and "contract" ; the 2nd is: demonstrative theories of distributive justice—profess faith in God' s will and the course of nature and the reasonable choice under the veil of ignorance; the 3rd is—focal points of distributive justice: community and individual; the 4th is—essential ways of realization of distributive justice: relying on ethics and relying on law. We could gain a clear idea of the characteristic and differences between Chinese traditional political ethics and western contemporary political ethics according to the research of comparison on distributive justice. During the course of the achievement of the four modernizations (of agriculture, industry, national defense , and science and technology) in order to make our country be one of advanced nations in the world, we should not only renew our Chinese traditions but also use and absorb the advanced civilization of other countries for reference. This paper in terms of theory this paper gives something for reference and inspiration for further study in political ethics and construction of political civilization so that it has some practical significance.
