The dissertation, under the context of semiosemantics, makes a sysmatic and specific exploration of the motivations of literary translation, one kind of cultural translation, in the perspective of metaphoricity, intentionality, non-referentiality and intertextuality respectively.By taking semantic motivations of semiotics, the thesis explores one aspect of cultural translation(literary translation) in four parts. The first part tells the general development of semioitics and semiotranslation studies at home and abroad. And the second part offers the case study of famous semiotranslation scholars such as C.S.Peirce, R. Jakobson, E.Nida and D.L.Gorlee. In the third part, the author cites examples of literary translation to illustrate the motivation of semiotranslation in the aforementioned aspects. At last, the conclusion is drawn upon the tentative studies of cultural translation by using semiotics theories. And the author also asserts that semiotranslation theory will be complementary to other translation theories.
