There are plenty of ideology of hermeneutics in 77k Mencius. The past exegetes interpreted some principles of annotation in The Mencius from different approach. But up to now no one has regarded the Mencius' ideology of hermeneutics as an integral whole to make systematic and thoroughgoing elucidation. The dissertation trys to break the limitation and integrate the principles of annotation in The Mencius according to their inner link.Firstly the dissertation points out that the ultimate basis of the Mencius' theory of annotation is the tao, which means that the start and end-result of the Mencius' practice of annotation is the tao of Confucianists. Mencius elucidated his value belief and political opinions by interpreting the ancient books and records.Secondly the dissertation points out that there are two kinds of methods of hermeneutics in the Mencius' theory of annotation. One is the method of objective cognition, which is the method of reappearing the author's original intention. The other is the method of individual intuition, which needs the readers exert intuition as they interpret the sutra. The two methods are merged in the Mencius' principle of zhiyan.Thirdly the dissertation illuminates the application of the Mencius' theory of annotation to the Mencius' practice of annotation by sufficient exemplifications. Finally the dissertation illuminates the connections between the Mencius' ideology of hermeneutics and other manifold ideologys of hermeneutics of later generations in detail, some of which are direct, the others are indirect.
