"surprises," Two-tone Verb Study

This dissertation focuses on the disyllables in Paian Jingqi( 《拍案惊奇》 ) and endeavors to make quiescent descriptions and analysis.The dissertation consists of four chapters.Chapter Ⅰ is "The Research's Significances and Current Development". Some papers figured out that some words in Paian Jingqi belonged to Wu Dialect which we didn't study in this dissertation. To judge a word, we attach importance to it's acceptation, that is to say, to check if the respective meaning of the two morphemes has been fused and check if this disyllable structure could be used independently and take the frequency of the words into account. The dissertation only researches the words which appeared not less than four times.Chapter Ⅱ is " The Word-building of the Disyllable Words in Paian Jingqi". We investigate the disyllable predict verbs. There are 1764. Based on the rule of judging words, there are 720 verbs, including 7 simplex words and 713 complex words.There are five kinds of complex disyllable verbs, which are combining structure, verb-accusative structure, verb-complementation structure, adjunct-headword structure and subject-predict structure. More than half of the verbs are combining structure and the least verbs are subject-predict structured ones. The dissertation describes all the five kinds considering their structures of parts of speech and acceptation, and the relations between the acceptation of morphemes and words. A. part of speech. There are four kinds of structures of adjunct-headword disyllable predict verbs' part of speech. B. acceptation. The verb- accusative disyllable predict verbs have five complicated structures. And three kinds in combining structure and verb-complementation structure, only one kind in subject-predict structure. C. the relations between the acceptation of morphemes and words. There are four kinds of structures in combining structure and two kinds in verb- accusative structure and only one kind in verb-complementation structure, adjunct-headword structure and subject-predict structure. In the whole text, simple words are very few.Chapter Ⅲ is " The Backformation and Word-or-phrase Disyllables Words". The backformation disyllables words are described and analyzed in three dimensions. The word-or-phrase disyllables words are summed up into three kinds.Chapter Ⅳ is " The Synonymy Aggregations of Mental State". The dissertation checks the synonymy aggregations of Jingcha(惊诧), Shangxin(伤心), Naonu(恼怒) and Yuanhen(怨恨) and compares these with the same synonymy aggregations in Qingping Shantang Huaben(清平山堂话本)Shuihu Quanzhuan(水浒全传) and Xiyou Ji(西游记). In Paian Jingqi, there are more synonymy aggregations which can express people's delicate mind more exactly and fulfill the people's demands of communication at that time.
