With fruitful results, the study of pronouns is carried out earlier in the branch of modern Chinese grammar. Mr. Lu Shuxiang' s essay "Interpretations of Nin, An, Za, in addition Men" opened the branch of modern Chinese grammar. Modern Chinese Denotative Pronouns, a book published in 1985, is a milestone both from its content and its methodology. (Mei Zulin 1986) Other seholars also discussed the study of pronouns, but they are far from enough in the context of more that one thousand years history of modern Chinese. This thesis tends to study the imitated Huan Ben novel written by Ling Mengchu in the later Ming Dynasty in 17th century. Through statistical study and variety study, this thesis attempts to generalize the oral pronoun-system of that time.Through the study, the thesis concludes that the pronouns in the Paian Jingqi The Second are various. Personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns and interrogative pronouns all have their complete single character forms and complex forms; the classic usages, newly generated forms and new forms of classic Chinese under the influence of modern pronouns. Meanwhile the pronouns in the Paian Jingqi The Second are closely related with pronouns in contemporary Chinese, and shows a strong transi tion.
