Standing On The Edge Of The Pioneer Of The Century

"The first man in Chinese painting"___Li Tiefu was analysed in this thesis. Bypresenting his lifetime and art achievements ,1 drew the following conclusions. First in fact, he is not the first man in Chinese painting .In his hometown, Guangdong , there were many commercial artists in the middle of the Qin dynasty. They played an important part in Li Tiefu going abroad for painting. Second, Li Tiefu's technology and language in painting were both perfect. But it hardly influenced the Chinese painting in the 20th century. The thesis described the reasons :1,Li Tiefu went and lived abroad in his early life .He developed his special personality. All these kept him apart from the Chinese painting.2,The Chinese painting was not so advanced in the 1930s when he returned China. His foreign style had little in common with the painting by which the Chinese people were to be aroused. The background led to his failure.3,In this thesis, I compared the styles between Li Tiefu and Xu Beihong . I indicated that the latter combined the Chinese and the foreign tradition. It was just in harmony with the Chinese cultural environment and Chinese people's tastes. The former's influence was limited in the small field of painting , although he thought highly of the social revolution. In analyzing Li Tiefu, I considered that we should not only remember the forgotten people but come back to the real history. By giving him the probable comments about his art achievements can we make and provide the academic base for the writing of the Chinese painting history.
