After the Opium War (1840-1842),the relation in urban and rural areas with confinement tradition of China had been broken. After entering the 20th century, because of the invasion of imperialism, China in urban and rural areas had been involved in the international market, became a part in international trade. The modern city was changed into the economic center from traditional military affairs and political city gradually, Countryside that was joined with it had changed under the influence of urban economy at first. This thesis has analysed the relation between some modem economically developed city and its hinterland from modern rural supporting one's family system, industrial structure and life structure, we can find out the economic links between town and country are close day by day. In addition, with the 20th century, the development and perfection of China's modern traffic, information and financial undertaking, draw the modern relation in urban and rural areas in China to stretch from the space, spread over a whole area from one point.The relation in urban and rural areas is not merely confined to the place of a corner, have formed and divided the unified relation within the area. Modern China under various kinds of historical factor and function of economic factor, form the Northeast, North China, the Northwest gradually, the Yangtze River valley, Coastal area, the disparate development has caused the traditional relation in urban and rural areas and new-type relation in urban and rural areas to coexist among every area. This thesis analyse the development, changment and characteristic of relation in urban and rural areas in the 20th century from space structure and economic link, it is historic with reference function to nowadays solve the problem of" Peasants, Countryside and Agriculture" to China.
