Yexie was a literary theorist of China in the first few years of the Qing Dynasty in the Kangxi period. In his book, Yuanshi, and some other articles, he criticizes mistaken ideas of literature that occurred in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and establishes his own idea of literary change and development theory around the center of worship Confucianism while attaching importance to the form change of poems. This essay mainly expounds his idea of literary change and development. There are two sections in the essay: testing and ending, and there are three chapters included in testing.Chapter One mainly introduces the criticism made by Yexie pointing at all kinds of mistaken ideas in poems arising during Ming and Qing Dynasties . These schools of thought include Qianhouqizi, Yunjian, Xileng which has the tendency of restoring the Confucian ways, Gong'an and Jingling which suggest that poems should express feelings other than Confucianism traditions and Wuzhong poem representated by Wangwan. Based on this criticism, Yexie established his literary ideas, that is respect Confucianism while paying great attention to the form change of poems.Chapter Two explains the relationship between the pattern change of poems and Confucianism traditions. This section resoundingly expounds three aspects. The rationale for the form change of poems were Shiyanzhi, Wenroudunhou, society and politics. This chapter tries to prove that Yexie's idea of form change of poems was formed on the basis of Confucianism.Chapter three explains the form change and development of poems through the main ideas in the book Yuanshi. It includes three parts: the first part is Xiongjin, Jiangxin, Mianmu and Bianhua, the second is Li shi qing, and the third is Cai dan shi li.In the first part of chapter three, Yexie shows that poets should have their own Xiongjin and Jiangxin if the poet wants to create a poem that was different from his ancestor. At the same time, different works of a poet should not have the same patter and his works should changes. In the second part he explains the form change of poems in this way, that is, from Li shi qing in nature to Xuming and Dingwei, to Sifa and Huofa, in order to illustrate the form changes of poems that couldn't be explained. In the third part he illustrates the form change of poems from four aspects in the poem, that is Cai dan shi li.In conclusion Yexie illustrates the ideas of literature development with worship Confucianism while attaching importance to the form change of poems from the historic river of poem development. He thinks that the poem form was changed and developed from Three hundred poems to the poem in the Song Dynasty. The decline of poetry after the Song Dynasty didn't prove the idea that the poem wasn't evolving. He has full confidence in the future development of poems and poetry.
