Chinese Animal Words Study

This article, based on proper names apprearing in the materials of 《Interpretation of Culture and Character》,《ER》,《The Dictionary of Different Names of Things》 and 《Compendium of Material Medicine》, defines the six types of animal-naming reasons in Chinese language by the analysis of animal-naming, and depicts the irregular cross relations at different levels that they take on, or one compounding word may have two or more reasons.。 The activity of naming the types of animals in Chinese language is the process in which subject and object act on each other.。 One side, it is the character of animals themselves in Chinese language; the other side, it is the motivations and implications of people when they choose characters as classification and denomination. Animals always possess various aspects of characters or symbols; thus, the same animals always have several names and one name reveals characters in some aspect。 The research on the types of animal-naming reasons in Chinese language and regularity phenomena that they take on have important significance on revealing the inner law of development of Chinese language and the deep cultural ins and outs of Chinese words。 This dessertation gets some new understandings on these aspects by my own research。The basic element that language expresses national historical cultures is vocabulary system of the language。The semantic compositions of words, semantic field and motivations of words have their national cultural features。 Animal words contain important national cultural information as an important part of words in Chinese language.。 The cultural information inanimal words inculde the notions that animal words express people's totem worship, value orientations that the praise and denigration of animal words express, characters of thinking that images of words reflect, ways of thinking of Han nationality that classification categories of animals reflect, and folk customs that some animal words embody, etc..Animal words in Chinese language are a part full of features of cultural words in Chinese language。Explanation to information management from the angle of information policy and meantime it's also a supplement about thatc...
