Differences And Translation Of The Cultural Connotations Of Animal Words Both In English And Chinese In The Light Of Intercultural Communication

Language is a cultural carrier. Culture-loaded vocabulary plays an important role in a language. Different social backgrounds and national cultures have a great effect on the cultural connotations of vocabulary. This essay will try to discuss the cultural connotations of animal words both in English and Chinese from the following aspects: the same animal words with the same cultural meanings; the same animal words with different cultural meanings; different animal words with the same cultural meanings; the same animal words with both the same and different cultural meanings and the same animal words without the equivalent cultural meanings. With comparison, we can clearly see the cultural marks of animal words and language and culture are closely related to each other.Therefore, this essay also studies the principle and approaches of translating culture-loaded words in the broad context of intercultural communication by exploring the relation between culture and translation. Culture-loaded words, which contain cultural connotation and obviously mirror cultural characteristics, are often considered difficult to translate. In light of intercultural communication research, pragmatic equivalence should be achieved by adopting proper translating approaches.
