What we call "the different Chinese versions of Sutra"is the different Chinese translations of a same Buddhist scripture by the different translators in the history of Buddhism. The research for the different Chinese versions of Sutra has a long time, but limits to the domain of Buddhist research in order to make it easier to understand the meaning of Buddhist sutra. This thesis mainly involves Linguistics,we select the quadruplet different Chinese versions of Sutra from the two great translators named "Zhu Fahu 竺法护(Western Jin Dynasty)" and "Jiumoluoshi 鸠摩罗 什(YaoQin Dynasty)" in the Medieval times, comparing the sameness and difference of the different Chinese versions of Sutra on vocabulary, and try to describe and explain Chinese translations of the Buddhist scripture deeply.Based on the retrospection of the comparative study's actuality in the different Chinese versions of Sutra, the thesis points out that the difficulty can be met and the problem should be paid attention to when we make the comparative study of the different Chinese versions of Sutra ,and by analyzing the series of the different Chinese versions of Sutra from the two translators we find out the lexical difference between the old and the new Chinese versions of Sutra. Using the lexical difference, we try to search some words' meaning, have a collation, and differentiate the Buddhist sutra whose translator is wrong and the Buddhist sutra whose translator is unknown. The comparative study of the different Chinese versions of Sutra can give us some clue to search the meanings of some words. Making the examination on the inside factor(word's meaning) and outside factor(background of culture, social customs) of the sutra vocabulary, the thesis also studies the way of word's making about the word "Fan Fu(反复)"in the Buddhist sutra, differentiates and analyzes the relation of the word "Bing Shou(病瘦)" in the Buddhist sutra and the Middle Earth literature, defines the words "Chang Gui(长跪)","Qi Shou(稽首)" ,"Cha Shou (叉手)"that are borrowed from the Middle Earth literature, but are different from the meaning of it,this shows the difference in the culture of China and India. Furthermore, the thesis probes into the comparative study of the different Chinese versions of Sutra in future.
