Japanese graphic design grows fast during the past 40 years and now it has already become a mature design system. As a neighbor with close related history and culture, China meets almost the same problems in the developing of graphic design as Japan does because of the similar writing system. This thesis tries to make a research on the development of contemporary Japanese poster design with the help of semiology and semantics, and decode Japanese graphic design with the help of the enc codes of the visual symbols such as writing symbols, traditional pattern symbols , modern pattern symbols, color symbols, in hope of providing some experiences for the development of Chinese graphic design.
