Traditional Chinese music, including folk song and dance music, talking and singing music, opera music and folk instrumental music, is closely connected with folk-song. Besides analyzing folk-song from the perspective of theme, style and musical elements, this thesis mainly aims to make detailed and thorough analysis of folk-song from the perspective of emotion. In the field of folk-song, emotion is not one-sided. It opens wide to the outside world from different angles. The profundity and vastness of life itself and the broadness of the nature create a rich and wide spiritual space for folk-song in every way. In order to further discuss the emotional expression of folk-song, the thesis tries to probe into the emotional changes from the perspectives of history, folklore, anthropology, sociology, geography and aesthetic psychology and to illustrate the importance of the emotion elements in folk-song.This thesis includes three chapters. Chapter one briefly introduces the origination and development from the perspective of aesthetic and makes a classification of folk-song in theme and style. Chapter two discusses features and performance of emotional elements in folk-song and makes a detailed study of collective creation, variability of transmission and extemporaneous singing. Chapter three thoroughly analyzes emotion elements presented in folk-song and further divides the folk-song into four types from emotional perspective.
