This thesis not only analyzes lyric Pieces of E.H.Grieg, a famous Norwegain composer, but also sums up the composing techniques and style of the composer .In addition, the thsis demonstrates Grieg's influence on the 20th century music. What is more, the paper attempts to supplement the arguments to the viewpoint of what Grieg's influence is on Bela Bartok, a greatest Hungarian composer. This thesis consists of six sections: Introduction This part expounds the reasons and ways of analyzing Lyric Pieces. First of all, Lyric Pieces is the masterpieces of all Grieg's works, and the imperishable opuses in the music history of Europe as well. They have both broad and far-reaching influence on the development of Europe music. Secondly, some scholars mention the viewpoint of Grieg's influence on Bela Bartok, but do not have sufficient arguments to testify it. Therefore, this paper provides arguments by analyzing Lyric Pieces. The way of analysis is the traditional musical analysis method. Chapter â… : Factors of influence on the Grieg's composition This chapter includes six parts. 1.Geography and history of Norway. 2.Literature of Norway. 3,Music and dance of Norway. 4, Romanticism tradition of J.L.F.Mendelssohn and C.J.Schumann; 5, Profound influence of O.bull and R.Nordraak's Nationalism ideas. 6, Brief summary. The paper considers even though many factors work together, the most important thing is that Grieg expressed his genius and absorbed the cream of all factors. Chapter â…¡: The musical analysis of Lyric Pieces This chapter is the primary part of the text. According to the published order of the works, this part analyzes the music elements of the works, such as form, melody, mode, tonality, harmony, rhythm and texture, etc. At length, the personality and characteristic of the composing techniques are shown in this chapter. Most Grieg's contribution is mainly in the fields of mode, tonality, harmony and melody. Comparatively speaking, he real did little in the fields of form and techniques of development. Chapter â…¢: Observing Lyric Pieces from the aspect of the style This chapter discusses the styles of Lyric Pieces, which displays at least four clear stylistic tendencies, including Romanticism, Nationalism, Realism and Impressionism. The styles of Lyric Pieces have the traits of multiplicity and amalgamation. As a professional composer, Grieg possessed and selected the style. At the same time, he was not fettered by the style. The foundation of the style was his distinct individuality. Chapter â…£: Observing Lyric Pieces from the aspect of the history This chapter is made up of three parts. First, the status of Grieg and his Lyric Pieces in the music history of Norway. Second, the stylistic head-stream and influence. Third, the included developing tendencies of the 20th century music in Lyric Pieces. In Lyric Pieces, there is inheritance of the Europe traditional music legacy, On the contrary, there is innovation and revolution of the traditional composing techniques. To deny the traditional melody, to expand the harmony, to writ in the semi-tonic style and to enhance degree of dissonance are the developing tendencies of the 20th century music. Concluding remarks: Discuss on Greig's influence on Bartork This is the conclusion of the dissertation. Above all, this part reviews the origin and composing character of Bartork's music. Then, the contention is substantiated through three aspects. 1. Their relation in the music history. 2. Their style. 3. Their characteristic of composing techniques.
