In recent years, a plateau phenomenon arises in the Chinese character learning, which is not fit for the present situation because of severe lack of reform. This thesis regards that the Theory of Similarity is a good help, with strong referential methodology. It's feasible to reform the Chinese character learning under this theory to nurse new teaching concept, therefore helpful to solve diverse existent problems in the Chinese character teaching. This thesis can be divided into four parts. Part one is on the major points of the similarity theory and its connection with Chinese character teaching. The theory of similarity goes on the ubiquitous similarities in the objective world, so does human's thought. Three relations and three disciplines will show the similar connections among things. The theory of similarity is a regress and innovation of the traditional Chinese thinking way from which it inherits the wholeness concept. Meanwhile, with the help of brain science, cognitive psychology and physiology, it revises the disadvantages of being vague in Chinese thought. The theory of similarity views that the scientific way to know a thing is to find out and study the similarities between them. The study of Chinese characters teaching is not excluded. The process of shaping and developing of Chinese characters is similar to those of human thinking and embodies the regularity of human's thinking development. Thus, it is positive to teach under the development regularity of Chinese characters and with the help of the theory of similarity. It is helpful to overcome the shortcomings of researching Chinese character teaching from the word system itself instead of the words' shaping process. This will be a breakthrough in the field of Chinese character teaching. Part two observes the shaping and developing process of Chinese characters from the viewpoint of the theory of similarity which views that things are universally related. The shaping and developing process of Chinese characters in nature, macroscopically, is similar to the thinking way of Han nationality and microcosmically, similar to that of a single person's. Both have experienced the developing process from intuition to visualization and then to the abstract. The theory of similarity enlightens researchers to examine the shaping and developing process from the regularity of man's thinking way and activity. Chinese character is the product of the similarities between human beings, nature and other things. The process that Chinese characters develop from Pictography to Ideograph "Zhishi zi", Compound characters "Huiyi zi", to phonogram "Xingsheng zi" just indicates a resemblance regularity increase by degrees from the resemblance of phenomenon to that of structure. Part three under the theory of similarity examines the past Chinese character teaching, pointing out that for a long time the Chinese character teaching, based on a questionable methodology, has severe problems ignoring the relationship between human and the characters development, the human's receiving ability for Chinese characters. Though a long history, it is not until the 20th century after the study of cognitive psychology results in certain achievements that Chinese character teaching starts to draw researchers' attention to the relationship between human and Chinese characters. Aiwei and some other people's researches are important but not duly recognized. Improved and integrated on the existent word learning method, the present character teaching displays a delightful situation. The thesis then analyzes the present character learning from four dimensions on its disadvantages, such as no guide of suitable methodology, no enough emphasis and grasp on the Chinese words characteristics, no enough creation of learning environment, and the centralized condition of Chinese words teaching. The last part proposes some suggestions on how to improve the Chinese character teaching, construct new scientific reading system and create new words learning method. Under the theory of similarity, firstly, we should master student's similar standby block. Secondly, understanding and master the connection of Chinese words teaching and other things around. Thirdly, take granted the Chinese words teaching as systemic project.
