From the perspective of identification of commonality and difference, the thesis will focus on the relationship between Xin Xue and "western culture" in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty. The thesis views that Xin Xue took a very important role in the communication between eastern and western culture in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty. It's Xin Xue that make some Confucian scholars such as Xu Guangqi break away from prejudice and thus had the capability which was sensitive and comprehensive to western culture. The reflection of Christianity from those Confucian scholars who are under the influence of Xin Xue became Matteo Ricci's rule of experiencing and adjusting the missionary way. Matteo Ricci was careful of how to satisfy Confucian scholars and there was response to each other. In the end narrating difference with commonality became a steady missionary mode. Therefore, Xin Xue played the role of media in the form and development of the missionary mode of narrating difference with commonality.The first part of the thesis is to expound how Matto Ricci narrated difference with commonality. In late Ming and early Qing dynasty, Christianity introduced to China was the difference to Chinese culture. How could the difference be accepted by Chinese people at that time? Matteo Ricci took the way of narrating difference with commonality. Definitely to say, he took Christianity as the source of Confucian culture. Only on the basis of this condition can there be commonality. This kind of commonality corresponds to the source, which existed difference. The standard of "true commonality" is Christianity. To achieve the goal of "hue commonality", he had to eliminate core difference which lie in Confucian culture and which conflict to Christianity. Matteo Ricci eliminated the difference in two aspects.
