"spring And Autumn Zuo Chuan," Explained The Study

The Spring and Autumn Annals and the Zuo Commentary, which are alwaysregarded as the annalistic historical writings, are the important historical data of people studying the social conditions of the Spring and Autumn Period. However people always have the divergence on the relation of the two writings. From the point of the study of Rite and explanation, this paper studies and probes into the relation between the two writings by means of comprehensively using the former studying achievement on the Spring and Autumn Annals and the Zuo Commentary. And it concludes that the aim of writing the Spring and Autumn Annals is not only to purely save the historical data and historical writings, but also to contain the Rites of the Zhou Dynasty writing the historical incident by the technique of writing the Spring and Autumn Annals on the condition that the writer broke the principle of the ancient historiographer. As well, the Zuo Commentary is not the pure compilation of historical material, but the Rite document which explains the Spring and Autumn Annals by using historical data in the biographical style of explanation in the aim of reproducing the ceremony of the Zhou Dynasty.
