"x" In Modern Chinese Word Study

This article inspects the nature of "Xing" in the modem Chinese, and discusses determination standard of affix, also inspects the category of "X Xing" words, significance of "Xing", semantic characteristic of "X Xing" words and syntactic function of "X Xing" word, origin and its grammaticalization process and conditions of quasi-suffix "Xing", etc.The first chapter introduces the research content, goal and method, origin of language materials as well as present situation in this article.The second chapter determines the nature and status of "X Xing", considers "Xing" as quasi-suffix, and points out its importance and indispensable status in the construction word from its categorized functions, the influences on significance of stem, grammatical functions, sentence pattern, genre function, and semantic function.The third chapter discusses syllable, lexical and semantic category of "X Xing" words, and analyzes the condition of forming "X Xing" words through the classification, then gets the result that "X" not only must satisfies the certain syllable condition and lexical category condition, but also the certain semantic condition.The fourth chapter analyzes the semantic characteristic and the syntactic function of "X Xing" words. And points out that "X Xing" words are the nature and the characteristic which subjects and organism are under the certain condition. This chapter also inspects syntactic function of "X Xing" in detail, and using the concept of hierarchy in grammar research to inspect the grammar characteristic of "X Xing", then makes the explanation on the rank which attenuated in this kind of function. Moreover, this chapter also discusses morphological tendency of the modern Chinese from quasi-suffix of "Xing".The fifth chapter inspects grammaticalization process and its condition of "Xing". Believe that quasi-suffix "Xing" is from grammaticalization of morpheme "Xing" containing notional significance of monosyllable, and its grammaticalization needs certain semantics and syntactic condition, at the same time is correlative to analogy, language contact and social effects.Finally is the conclusion that summarize the major points proposes in the article.
