Even since Chinese Grammar by Mr. Ma was published, people in the grammar fields have had a great many of divergences on the classification of Chinese hypothetical conjunctions and the relation types of complex sentences. In accordance with the demarcation differences which lie in the hypothetical complex sentences and hypothetical conjunctions, this thesis has reviewed the researches which the former people had made on the classifications of complex sentences and the scope of hypothetical conjunctions. According to Mr. Xing Fuyi's demarcation to the hypothetical complex sentences , we have divided Chinese hypothetical complex sentences into two types: One if possibility hy pothetical complex sentence and the other is inverse-fact hypothetical complex sentence. According to the capacities of the two types of hypothetical complex sentences, we continued to divide the hypothetical conjunctions into three types. They are: hypothetical conjunctions specialized for possibility; hypothetical conjunctions specialized for reverse-fact and hypothetical conjunctions in addition for possibility. With the quantitative analysis method, in the limited linguistic material, we made statistical and contractive analysis on the frequency that the hypothetical conjunctions used both in Chinese and English. Then we gave our suggestions on how English-spoken students learn the Chinese hypothetical complex sentences and hypothetical conjunctions well. This thesis has five parts. The first chapter is mainly about the range and contents, its purpose and significance; and introduced the methods of studying and the resource of the datum. Chapter II has analyzed correlative actuality of Chinese and English on hypothetical conjunctions. The third chapter has discussed the cla- ssify and the usage complexion of Chinese hypothetical conjunctions. The forth chapter is about the corresponding forms in English of Chinese hypothetical conjunctions. The last chapter has talked about contrast analysis between Chinese and English hypothetical conjunctions.
