On Lan Mao's Position And Influence In The Yunnan Historical And Cultural

Lanmao, styled Tingxiu and named Zhi An, was born in the Town of Yanglin, Songming County of Kunming, Yunnan. As one of the celebrities of Yunnan history, Lanmao is the most famous doctor, phonologist and writer of Yunnan in the Ming Dynasty. He earned his life by instructing and practicing medicine so as to enjoy the deep love and esteem of the people.Lanmao wrote many works. Among which, the celebrated were Materia Medica of Yunnan, The Easy Way to Harmonious Diction, etc. Materia Medica of Yunnan appeared earlier 142 years than Compendium of Materia Medica. The present 21 initial consonants of mandarin grew out of the 20 initial consonants of The Easy Way to Harmonious Diction. The novel Continuation of Journey to The West came earlier over 100 years than Record of A Journey to The West. These masterpieces created the great effects on medicine of national minorities, phonology and literature in Yunnan and the whole country. Accordingly, Lanmao was crowned with eternal glory. Up to now, many historic cites and monuments about Lanmao still have existed, such as Langong Ancestral Shrine, Tanhuasi Temple, etc.Unfortunately, Yunnan is situated in the southwest frontier region of China, and Lanmao was one of the ordinary people. His achievements haven't been publicized enough. Especially, his Materia Medica of Yunnan hasn't been affirmed well; People are not very familiar with him as the forerunner of generalizing mandarin in China.Under the circumstances of developing Yunnan tourism energetically, to explore Lanmao's historical and cultural resources has important significance. We should enlarge Lanmao's popularity on the historical basis. To make Yunnan historical and cultural resources available, this thesis plans to further dissert Lanmao's historical and cultural status and influence in Yunnan. Meanwhile, it also gives several suggestions about exploring Lanmao's historical and cultural resources.
