A Project Report On Consecutive Interpreting:Based On "The 2017 Yunnan Province International Workshop On Advanced Technology Of Herbal Medicine For Practitioners From South And Southeast Asia"

With the continuous development of the Chinese society,China’s influence on the world is becoming increasingly obvious,which is reflected in the economic,political and cultural aspects.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)carries the valuable experience and theoretical knowledge of ancient Chinese people who struggled against diseases.TCM is a medical theory developed in the long-running medical practices that proves to be effective in treating ailments.To share TCM with the rest of the world,international workshops serve as good platforms for cooperation and exchange.Through such training courses,we can further promote TCM culture,establish cooperative relations with relevant countries and enhance friendship among nations.The workshop in focus is one offered to medical personnel from South and Southeast Asian countries under the rubric of “International Workshop on Advanced Technology of Herbal Medicine for Practitioners from South and Southeast Asia”.As the workshop lasts for 20 days with many courses to be covered,only one course,namely,Methods for Field Investigation of Botanical Drugs,has been chosen to be analyzed for the writing of the thesis.There are many professional terms involving TCM,environment and biology during the course,and the accent of the professor is also a big challenge,which increases the difficulty of the interpreting task.So,misinterpreting and information loss during the interpreting task are inevitable.This report is aimed at analyzing the problems and coping strategies observed during the interpreting process.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the background of the interpreting practice and the interpreting task.The second chapter describes the preparations before the interpreting task.In the third chapter,the author provides case studies according to the transcription,which include the problems that propped up during the interpreting task and some coping strategies with the problems.The forth chapter is the conclusion of the interpreting task.The author expects to provide a meaningful reference for those who may engage in the field of medical interpretation.
