Research on Styles of Modern Commercial Illustration and its PracticalSignificance: The 3rd Information Revolution which centers on the newmass media has changed people's working styles and has changed thespreading modes, range and speed of the visual arts greatly. As anessential component of modern visual arts, modern commercial illustrationdesigns have extended and penetrated into different fields of society andspread through the mass media rapidly. Nowadays, its contents, functionsand forms have changed greatly and have blended with some relatedsubjects. Commercialization is the most important feature which differsmodern commercial illustration from book illustration.Featured by network and multi-media designs, the new spreadingmodes affect the forms of modern commercial illustration styles as well.With the development of such new spreading modes, modern commercialillustration have changed from the traditional two-dimension designs intonew multi-dimension designs; from single angle into multi-angle in itsforms; from traditional to modern of people's esthetic sense, whichpromote the modern commercial illustration styles into a diversifieddevelopment.The Present Condition of Modern Commercial Illustration StyleResearch: The study to the modern illustration in the advanced regions likeEurope, US, Japan etc. has already been very popular. Especially in US,through many years of refining and polishing, it has already formed its ownstyle and a mature system. In Japan and Korea, it has also developed aspecial style and design language with the rapid growth of their economy.Compared with the abroad, the study of the illustration in China stillpositions itself at the illustration techniques and related topics such asperiodical characteristics. Study to commercial illustration styles has notyet become systematic and complete. Studies to modern illustration styleswhich comprehensively include esthetic, cultural, art, psychological, andtechnical points of views are still lacking.My research to the modern commercial illustration styles mainlyincludes three aspects: 1. a summary and content of study; 2. analysis ofdesign styles; 3. factors which influence style formation and its development, including esthetic sense, culture, art, tecnnology, andglobalization economy etc.. This article also listed a few most representingartists in the modern illustration art realm, they were pioneers of theillustration-visual-ages and their achievements are also the treasures ofthis era. Also displayed in this article are works which have strongcharacteristics of the ages in various business realms. They can help ustake a more vivid look at the variation and development of this realm.An elaboration of its influence to modern illustration styles fromesthetic, cultural, art, psychological, and technical points of views canserve as some theoretical reference to the development of illustrationdesign in the new era and new realm. This topic is relatively new andrealistic from the academic point of view.
