Yan Guangming was a famous Chinese ancient poet, who was living in Shandong province in the beginning of Qing Dynasty. He was one of the Ten Talents of Jintai. His highest official position was the secretary of history department of Personnel Ministry. He had an intimate intercourse with some literary masters at that time because of his outstanding literary genius and his honesty to friendship. He had published his poetry anthology named Lepu Anthology ,which was once highly remarked by Gu Yanwu, Wang Shizhen and some other masters. However, we have not a thorough study to Yan Guangming and his works. In this article, we will review his poetry from two aspects, one is the connotation, and the other is the literary achievement. We will also review his intercourse with some poets, through which we would know the situation of poetry field in the beginning of Qing Dynasty and make a thorough understanding to the situation of local literature indictment in Shandong area in the beginning of Qing Dynasty.This article could be divided into 3 volumes.In the first volume, we will mainly introduce his family and his life experience, and review the influence of his family to him and his literary incitement. His grandfather, Yan Yingshao, died in the war against the Qing Empire. His father, Yan Bojing denied to serve in the Qing Empire. These made his nostalgia to the former Ming Dynasty. He was born in a literary family. His uncle Yan Boxun, elder brother Yan Guangyou and younger brother Yan Guangxiao had all published poetry anthologies. He had a good temper and a wide taste. He was good at riding, toxophily and Chinese ancient football, and he loved traveling. He had a wide reading, which made him good at poetizing, writing, calligraphy and painting. But the most famous was his poetries. His representational works was Lepu Anthology, which contended seven plus one volumes. This book had been highly praised by the masters at and after that time.In the second volume, we will mainly argue the academic communication of Yan Guangming. He was keen of communication in the beginning of Qing Dynasty. By this way, he reached widely and kept an intimate friendship with all ranks of people, such as the fallen nobles from Ming Dynasty, his fellow ages and friends, his students and decedents. In this volume, we divide his friends into three kinds, and argue all of them respectively. The first one is the writers who were nostalgia to the former Ming Dynasty, as Gu Yanwu and Dong Qiao. We also analyze why he kept an intimate connection with them. The second one is writers who worked in the government in the capital, such as Shi Runzhang, Wang Shizhen and so on. The third kind is the writers born in his hometown, such as Kong Shangren and Wang Yinchen, a famous artist. Through analyzing his communication, we can analyze his works much better. It will also help us realize the field of poetry in the beginning of Qing Dynasty.The third volume is most important. In this volume, we will deeply analyze his poetry of works and to review his importance in the field of poetry in his age as one of the Ten Talents of Jintai. The first part gives a brief introduction of poetry writing in the beginning of Qing Dynasty, and analyze the background and significance of the Ten Talents of Jintai chosen by Wang Shizhen. In the second part, we will argue the implication of his poetry. Based on the difference of the containment, we divide his poetry into two kinds, one is the description of social life, the other is the description of nature. The social poetries described lyrics, the hard life of people, the passion to life and some poetries which were also used as gifts. He also described the nature scenery of the South and the southwest part of Shandong province in a fresh tone, which expressed his love to his motherland. The third part gives an analysis to his achievement in four aspects. One is his elegant poetries and the deep meaning, which were highly praised by masters as Gu Yanwu. The second is that he was familiar with all kinds of poetries. The third is that his connotation was often vague but could make the poetry meaningful. The forth is that his poetries are short and simple, but they are connected skillfully and meaningfully.
