Lu yao is a writer who wanders over between the traditional civilization and the modern civilization. He yearns for the modern civilization and the prosperous city. However, he can not separate himself from the loess land where he was born and brought up. He wanders over between the city and village. In his heart, he is so ambivalent. So his evaluation on value is dual. however, this becomes the origin which makes his writing successful.The thesis tries to inquire into lu yao'creative psychology though five levels. The first level: the characters in lu yao's story are wander over between the city and the village. Their thinking and actions are contradictory. His characters long for the large civilized cities, but they can not break off their close relations with the traditional civilization. The second level: tribulation is the main theme in lu yao'works. He enjoys the bitterness and also wants to escape from it. Nevertheless, he never succeeds in escaping. This is a revealing of his contradictory psychology. The third level: because the author's creative psychology, which unconsciously adopts a circle narrative technique, the track of his characters'sentiment is designed as a circle. The fourth level: lu yao's evaluation on value is dual, his works often begins with historical evaluation, and ends with ethical evaluation. Thus, those contradictions enhance the captivation of the novel. The fifth level: lu yao's creative psychology comes from his hardly experience, his nostalgia for his hometown, as well as the culture background in which he was born.
