Her Novels Skills Analysis

This thesis attempts to regard Eileen Chang's novels written in 1940s ,especially LEGEND as the text in order to expand her artistic technique from two aspects: irony and image.As to her irony technique , Eileen Chang applied tactics of verbal irony and situational irony. She used skillful and meaningful irony to express a kind of satirical feeling. In the meantime , she also had the sympathetic attitudes towards vicissitudesof life of ordinary people in her novels. The composition of irony and detached manners in Eileen Chang's novels took on the unique desolate style of aesthetics.On image technique , this thesis illustrated Eileen Chang's novels mainly in her image of city which is more outstanding than others. And in her novel , use of image played important role in narration , which hinted the subject matter of the story ,revealed personae's mind , and run through the jump of the space. Meanwhile , this thesis tried to analyze the particular characteristic of the images in Eileen Chang's novels. Firstly , form Objective Correlative into image. Secondly , form figure of speech into image.
