Contemporary Suyu Dialect Words And Expressions Which Lasted Research

Up to now, the study on Suyu dialects has got some achievements. Statements of Jiangsu Dialects and Collection of Jiangsu Dialects have made a certain description on the phonetic, vocabulary and grammar of Suyu dialects (the former Suqian dialects). Mr.Liliang not only described Suyu dialects in detail but also paid attention to its inner distinctions and made a detailed analysis about it. However, there is still a gap that no body has studied Suyu dialects from diachronic view so far.By integrating synchronic and diachronic study, this thesis analyses two important points: the formation of Suyu dialects and the study of its distinctive words.From the view of the influences of language's inner succession and local customs to the formation of dialect words, there are several reasons that decide the formation of modern Suyu dialects: the succession of the ancient Chu dialect, the succession of ancient common sayings, dialects brought in by immigrants, customs and creating dialects by using common language morphemes.Most of Suyu dialects are inherited from ancient Chinese, without any changing. However, some words still change a lot in form, semantic structure and historical role in the procession of succession. Some words change their structure forms by clipping, changing position and changing pronunciations. The changes of semantic structure consist of widening of meaning and narrowing of meaning. Besides, it also has some changes in the number of meanings and contents. That is to say, words that have fewer meanings in history have more meanings in Suyu dialects; on the contrary, ones that have more meanings in history now have fewer meanings. And some have changed their meanings. Examples that inflecting different meanings creates words can also be found. The changes historical role of Suyu dialects mainly show as the disappearance of old dialectal words, the transportation of dialectal words into common words, the appearance of new words and so on.People can have a clear view on the development of Suyu dialects by studying Suyu dialectal words in diachronic way, tracing back to the origin of it and the reason that getting its names and discussing its changes, according to the rules of language and history, culture and customs in Suyu.
