Discovering the ancient phonetic feature from existent literature materials is a significant subject in the research of Chinese pronunciation development, and also an important channel for investigating Chinese phonetics history. Yin Shi, as a phonetic notation part of Yuan Qu Xuan, it used the way of specifying pronunciation or tone on some words in libretto parts and spoken parts to preserve large numbers of phonetic materials for later generations. To some extent, it is referenced for the research of neoteric pronunciation and its evolution.This thesis aimes for counting and doing research for pronunciation on all the Ru-tone words in Yin Shi of Yuan Qu Xuan, and separates them to the unvoiced-initial Ru-tone words,voiced-initial Ru-tone words and secondary voiced-initial Ru-tone words these three sorts which to be discussed respectively. Moreover, it makes a chart to analyze tones of modern Chinese mandarin and Guang Yun, Zhong Yuan Yin Yun, and probes into all the mediaeval Ru-tone words involved in Yin Shi of Yuan Qu Xuan, especially the situation of classification of the unvoiced-initial Ru-tone words, in order to look into and speculate evolution of pronunciation.This dissertation consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the preface which introduces Zang Jinshu's primary experience and Yin Shi of Yuan Qu Xuan, it also explaines the purpose, significances and methods of doing research on this subject. The second chapter reviews the intonation system of unvoiced-initial Ru-tone words in Fin Shi of Yuan Qu Xuan from the ways of using the other three-tone words, the Ru-tone words and some specific mention to annotate the unvoiced-initial Ru-tone. The third chapter investigates the intonation system of voiced-initial Ru-tone words in Yin Shi of Yuan Qu Xuan from the respective analysis of Zang Jinshu's phonetic notation and specific mention for voiced-initial Ru-tone words and secondary voiced-initial Ru-tone words. The forth chapter counted. the Ying-initial Ru-tone words involved in Yin Shi of Yuan Qu Xuan, and compared them with the modern Chinese mandarin and Zhong Yuan Yin Yun. The fifth chapter is the epilogue, a brief summary of all the chapters above.
