The Orff system of music education has had a most profound influence and significance in 20th century music pedagogy. Twenty years ago, in 1980, prof Naixiong Liao introduced the Orff method to China and significantly influenced and added to the rich music tradition of China. We could say that the process of Orff music education systems' spread and development in China was its process of nativization in China. Orffs process of nativization in China not only is the process of restructuring and rebuilding our national music education culture, but is the process of endowing Orff with new vitality.This article states the advance of Orff music pedagogy in China through four aspects, namely nativization of education idea, textbook, instrumental manufacture and practice, and analyzed and considered the causes of Orff music pedagogy's spread in China and the problems which it met in the process of nativization in China. It is expected to explore the process of Orff music pedagogy's nativization in China initially so that Chinese music educators can understand Orff accurately and combined Orff with Chinese tradition well. We hope that the day which we might create our own music education system with Chinese characteristics is coming true.
