In different historical period and under different cultural background, people'scomments on Saint-Sa(?)ns's works and his position in the history of music have beencontentious.Putting the analysis of<Piano concerto No.2 in g minor>by Saint-Sa(?)ns into abroader musical cultural context, this paper explores the effects of context on the styleof his works, and proves his historic significance as a figure serving as a link betweenpast and future in the history of French instrumental music.<Piano concerto No.2 in g minor>vividly displays the noble elegance, balancedform, and resourceful humor in the tradition of French music, which is the very stylepursued by 'Soci(?)t(?) Nation de Musique' established by Saint-Sa(?)ns. Saint-Sa(?)nsstarted a new era of instrumental music in France and led a group of musicians to thecreation of many excellent works typical of French musical tradition.
