This paper is based on the research of aesthetic capacity in the United States and Taiwan. We referred to previous framework and methodology on the research of aesthetic capacity. We investigate and analyze the development of the appreciation and aesthetic ability of the paintings among the children and the young people in Beijing. There are several problems in the research: 1. the aesthetic ability of description and evaluation to paintings in different grade children and young people, in freshman that major in art and non-major in art. 2. The aesthetic tendency of the appreciation and review to the paintings among different gender students that in different ages and different areas.The investigation basically belongs to the repetitive research. We use survey data and statistical methods, supplied by qualitative research methods. 78 students were investigated, half male and half female in 9 schools in Beijing covered primary students and undergraduate students, and 312 questionnaires were returned.The respondents responded to the four types of pictures in this investigation, in which the three questions of opened, closed and semi-closed have been answered, respectively. Data related to 7 subjects were collected and analyzed. Based on this data and the performance in the interaction, the author made a conclusion about the children and young's ability to appreciate and commentate the arts, from two prospective, that were, ability development and aesthetics tendency. In addition, the suggestions of improvement were provided.As one of the fundamental researches in art education, the author hope to provide information for understanding the growth of children and young's ability to appreciate and commentate the arts, and offer useful references for the improvement of fundamental art education and public art education.
