The Chinese Ming Dynasty and Thailand Ayutthaya period under the same period in the history create the different furniture art and culture, because Chinese and Thai have the difference of location, national character and cultural backgrounds. Following the same period track of two countries, combining with whole cultural environment and cultural exchanges, deploying the comparison between two periods with a historical and cultural environment, the furniture category, an aesthetic characteristic and the cultural ideology, we explore the philosophical and aesthetic foundation which result in the different of characteristics of furniture.We thorough analyze the typical culture of the two periods, Chinese Ming Dynasty and Thailand Ayutthaya period, in order to find the cultural connotation of furniture. The main method of this paper is "parallel compare method"and "influencing compare method". According to this analysis, we found the different cultural connotations of Thai furniture and Chinese furniture. The result can be briefly summarized as follows:1. Historical and Cultural Environment: The Continental culture and the ruler of closed make Chinese Ming furniture having greater self-sufficiency, whereas the Continental culture and the ruler of open-minded policy make Thai furniture having greater openness.2. Furniture Category: There are some differences between the form of Chinese and Thai furniture because of different way of life. The figure of Chinese Ming Dynasty furniture is high-dominated. On the contrary, Thai prefer to sit on the floor. The high furniture appears until Thailand Ayutthaya period, but the furniture primarily serves for the royal family and Buddhist services.3. Aesthetic Characteristic: Chinese Ming Dynasty furniture is prone to linearity, thereby presents agility and verve. However, the furniture of Thailand Ayutthaya period is prone to overall shape, thereby presents symbolic and mysterious feel.4. Cultural Ideology: Chinese Ming Dynasty furniture under the effect of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism presents both dignified and subtle characteristics. The ethics of religion makes the furniture of this period inevitably with ethical overtones. On the contrary, the furniture of Thailand Ayutthaya period under the effect of Brahmanism Hinduism and Hinayana Buddhism presents mysterious religious overtones.The through comparison between the furniture of Chinese Ming Dynasty and Thailand Ayutthaya period is presented in this paper. We find characters of furniture in these two periods both existing differences and having common ground. But most in common, the furniture must follow the law of development of their own, that is, they must meet not only the historical and cultural environment, including geographical location, historical background, political and economic development, but also the material, social life and demand of art at that time, and continue to adapt to the development of age.
